For Immediate Release:  June 6, 2008

MTA AND GOOGLE TRANSIT™ PARTNER TO LAUNCH NEW MTA TRIP PLANNER

BALTIMORE, MD (June 6, 2008) Today, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) in partnership with Google Transit™, the global leader in online content, unveiled an online transit trip planner and a new MTA homepage.  These exciting new features allow travelers to find both driving and public transit information in the same location without visiting multiple websites. This new effort is the first phase of the MTA’s plan to improve the functions of its website. The next phase will provide customers with additional options for available departure and arrival times; the ability to select desired departure or arrival time and dates; estimated trip duration; transfer times and locations.

One of the MTA’s goals is to utilize technology to improve service to our customers. This initiative provides an essential tool for transit users that will make it easier to evaluate transit options and plan the most efficient trip. MTA customers may plan their trip via Google Transit at www.google.com/transit.

The new features to MTA’s website (www.mtamaryland.com) also integrate Google Maps with the information pages for each Bus, Metro, MARC, and Light Rail station, enabling customers to find local businesses – dry cleaners, restaurants, car rentals – without ever leaving the MTA site.

“The MTA is open to innovative initiatives and the partnership with Google Transit is exactly the kind of opportunity we seek.  We are very pleased to partner with Google Transit to improve the transit experience for our customers with this technology,” stated Paul J. Wiedefeld, MTA Administrator. “This public and private sector partnership helps to ensure that Maryland has a transit system that is customer friendly as we provide quality, safe and reliable service into the future.”

The MTA welcomes customers to visit its new website and to provide suggestions for continued improvements. For more information on MTA schedules, fares and other services, visit www.mtamaryland.com or call (410) 539-5000 or (866) RIDE-MTA.  TTY 410-539-3497.
