GRADUATION CEREMONY HELD FOR MDTA POLICE ACADEMY CLASS #40

BROOKLYN PARK, MD -- The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police announced today the graduation of Police Officer Candidate Class #40 on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Twenty-six men and women joined nearly 500 officers who patrol the more than 100 miles of major highways, five bridges and two tunnels operated by the MDTA, as well as the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and the Port of Baltimore.

The class began on August 1, 2007, and after enduring a demanding 29 weeks of training, the candidates were awarded their badges at a ceremony held at Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park.  Most of the graduates are from the Baltimore area, Harford County and Anne Arundel County.

The keynote speaker for the event was Transportation Secretary and Authority Chairman John D. Porcari.

“The Authority Police continue to have a vital role in securing infrastructure throughout the State of Maryland,” said Chairman Porcari.  “We congratulate each of these men and woman as they dedicate their careers to improving public safety.”

“These men and women are beginning a very rewarding profession. A career in law enforcement is filled with numerous opportunities throughout the agency,” said Chief Marcus L. Brown.  “The MDTA Police Academy has done a terrific job preparing these men and women to serve as MDTA Police Officers.”

Chairman Porcari was joined by MDTA Executive Secretary Ronald L. Freeland, and MDTA Deputy Executive Secretary Daniel F. McMullen, III.

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police, a nationally accredited force, is the seventh-largest law-enforcement agency in the State, with more than 600 sworn and civilian law-enforcement professionals. MdTA Police officers provide law enforcement at the Authority’s highways, bridges and tunnels, the Baltimore/ Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and the Port of Baltimore.

Note:  If you choose to use an acronym, please refer to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police as MDTA Police.  Thank you.
