Baltimore, Md. - The Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) today announced a recent trend in Saturday travel at the Bay Bridge and reminds motorists they hold the key to avoiding delays and congestion this summer travel season.
Since Memorial Day weekend, eastbound congestion at the Bay Bridge has developed around 10 a.m. on Saturdays. However, there is little traffic before 10 a.m. Motorists are urged to go early and travel between 7 and 10 a.m. on Saturdays to avoid delays. Drivers traveling eastbound after 10 a.m. should expect heavy delays into the evening.
"We encourage the many vacationers hitting the roads this summer to travel the Bay Bridge during off-peak traffic hours," said Authority Executive Secretary Ronald L. Freeland. "Planning ahead is key to avoiding congestion and enjoying a safe and easy trip."
To avoid significant delays, travel off-peak and Explore the Shore! when heading to and from Ocean City. The best times to travel the Bay Bridge include: Friday, before noon and after 10 p.m. Saturday, before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m. Sunday, before 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
