PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE I-95 SECTION 200 PROJECT
PLANNING STUDY SCHEDULED DECEMBER
13 

BALTIMORE, MD – The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is holding a public hearing on proposed alternates to address capacity and safety needs along 16-miles of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway
(I-95).  The I-95 Section 200 Project Planning Study area stretches from south of MD 43 in Baltimore County to north of MD 22 in Harford County.

The hearing will be held Dec. 13 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the William Paca Elementary School in Abingdon:

  • 5 – 6:30 p.m.: Review displays, Q&A with project team
  • 6:30 – 7 p.m.: Team presents project overview
  • 7 – 8 :30 p.m.: Public verbal testimony (limited to three minutes per person)
    *5 – 8:30 p.m.: private testimony will be taken by a court reporter

“By 2030, traffic volumes in this area are expected to increase by approximately 40%,” said Ronald L. Freeland, Authority Executive Secretary.  “The public hearing is an important step in project development for this vital economic corridor.  I recommend that all citizens who use this highway stop by, learn about the study and share their input.”

The public hearing will present the results of detailed engineering and environmental analyses performed since November 2005.  The alternates, as well as options for the I-95 interchanges at MD 152, MD 24, MD 543 and MD 22, will also be presented.

For citizens unable to attend the formal hearing or who wish to comment afterward, a public-comment period will be in effect until Jan. 21, 2008.  All written comments or requests to give verbal testimony may be submitted to Melissa Williams, Planning Manager, Maryland Transportation Authority, 2310 Broening Highway, Baltimore, Maryland 21224 or by calling 410-537-5651.  

Copies of the Section 200 Environmental Assessment are available for public review at the libraries in Perry Hall, Joppa, Edgewood and Aberdeen.  The Environmental Assessment and technical documents are also available for review, by appointment, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Maryland Transportation Authority offices at 2310 Broening Highway in Baltimore.  Comments on the Environmental Assessment should be directed to Melissa Williams, Planning Manager.

The Section 200 project team will respond to all comments in letter format.  All oral and written comments will be included in the public record.
