                       Maryland Motor Carrier Program

The Maryland Motor Carrier Program (MMCP) involves many agencies with a common vision – to ensure safe, efficient, and effective transportation of freight and passengers on the State’s highways.

The MMCP is proof that industry and government can work together to achieve mutual benefits. In Maryland, safety is good business!

Under leadership by the Secretary of Transportation, through a Motor Carrier Policy Officer, we are accelerating the State's economic growth through business development:

  • The state has become a distribution center for the mid-Atlantic region;
  • The motor carrier industry has created new jobs and expanded the tax base for the state; and
  • More tourists use motor coaches to visit more places throughout the state.

This growth is achieved by:

  • Striving for a crash-free environment, and improving government and industry productivity to achieve acceleration of economic growth in Maryland.
  • Developing and using performance measures to evaluate motor carrier operations and monitor progress toward the MMCP's success.
  • Evaluating current motor carrier regulations in order to recommend statutory changes for greater safety and security of motor carrier operations.
  • Communicating with public and private stakeholders to keep them informed of the MMCP.
  • Using technology to support a safer, more cost effective and efficient motor carrier program.
